My videos and animations

Here are some of my videos and animations created through the years...

Differences between lasers and IPLs.png

What are the difference between lasers and IPLs?

There appears to be a lot of confusion out there regarding the actual differences between lasers and IPLs - here is my take on this...

Where does light go in the skin_2.png

Where does the light go in the skin?

The way light energy traverses the skin is not trivial. It is quite a complicated process. The above video shows a simplified version of events.

Laser hair removal - how to choose the correct fluence.png

Laser/IPL Hair Removal - How to choose the correct settings

I am often asked 'what are the best settings for my laser for hair removal?' This depends on your laser, obviously, but it also requires a good understanding of the optical and thermal processes.

What is fluence_.png

What is 'fluence'?

This video shows precisely what 'fluence' means. This is important to understand since fluence is a main driver behind all photothermal treatments in the skin,.

IPL systems and how to choose the correct filter.png

Choosing the correct filter in your IPL

Choosing the correct filter for the task in hand is important to ensure good results. It is quite easy but you do need to know about the absorption of your targets.

Sometimes I do real science. When I can, I will present my results to medical-laser conferences. Here are some of my most recent presentations:

Laser/IPL hair removal is painful. But why? How does this pain arise? And how can we minimise it?

These days we have a choice of lasers with a number of wavelengths which may be applied to tattoos. But, changing the wavelength has a number of ramifications which you should also consider.

CO2 laser and a tangerine.png

Burning a tangerine skin with a CO2 laser

I like this video! We decided to see what happens when you zap a tangerine with our CO2 laser. Groovy stuff...

This was a wee experiment I tried using black ink between two slides, irradiated with some QS Nd:YAG energy. The results were interesting.
